Galentine's Day: A Day for Sisterhood and Friendship

We have the wonderful Leslie Knope to thank for Galentine’s. She first coined the term on Parks and Recreation. Celebrating the day before Valentine’s day, as a special day for “ladies celebrating ladies.” If you ask us, we want Galentine’s day everyday of the year.

At Rizzo’s, we honor the version of womanhood and femme expression that comes on strong and leaves the situation hot when you know what you want and aren’t going to settle. Womanhood and femme expression chock full of fight, solid as a rock, bold as brass, and never looks back. We all have babes like this in our life, whether it’s moms, daughters, best friends, or co-workers, and being able to celebrate them is so special.

Here are some of our favorite ways to celebrate our favorite darlings.

Brunch: First and most obvious, the core of girlhood, brunch. There is nothing better than all your girls and a mimosa. This is a super fun event to host, there’s so many cute goodies you can make that are Galentine’s themed (and pink). If you’re not in the mood for cooking, you could always do a potluck-style feast or just meet your girls out on the town.

Card Exchange: We all remember being in school and exchanging little Valentine cards. The tradition should have never stopped. Making a heartfelt card is such a sweet way to express your gratitude and love for each other. We promise your gal pals will keep these in their memory boxes forever. There are so many cute ones you can make at home or check out some of the ones we have in store.

Spa day: Treat each other the way you deserve to be treated. Splurge on a self care day at the spa or do a pampering session at home. Face masks, doing each other's nails, and getting cozy in your robes; we can’t think of a better way to unwind.

Craft night: Getting together with your girls and doing a little DIY is one of our favorite activities. There’s so many fun little crafts you can do that are Galentine’s themed like friendship bracelets, candle making, paint and sip, cookie decorating. The options are endless!

Movie marathon: If you and your girlfriends are homebodies then celebrate doing what you do best. Get all your blankets, comfiest pjs, favorite snacks and curl up together on the couch. Even though its Valentine’s day and you might be thinking rom com, there are so many sweet movies celebrating beautiful female friendships (Thelma & Louise, Bridesmaids, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, just to name a few).

Gift Exchange: Some of us are gift givers, and what better way to show your love than a thoughtful gift. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, these are tokens of appreciation and love and getting all your friends together to spoil each other sounds like the most fun. We’ve got some great gift bags and little treats in the store if you need inspo.

We hope you all take some time to reflect on the incredible women and femmes in your life who bring joy, strength, and love. Make sure you let them know what they mean to you!! Here's to the “ladies celebrating ladies” – Happy Galentine's Day!
